<nettime-ann> Tracing the new mobilities regimes

.

Tracing the new mobilities regimes.
The analytical power of the social sciences and the arts
Conference
October 16 and 17, 2008
Munich Academy of Fine Arts

The “Tracing the New Mobilities Regimes” conference sets out to analyse
phenomena of mobility, flexibility and accelerated living in the globally
networked information society. It focuses on the relations of mobility and
power, taking an interdisciplinary approach.

The conference sets into dialogue the perspectives of sociologists,
ethnologists, art historians and cultural studies scholars with those of
international artists. “Tracing the New Mobilities Regimes” thus reflects
two recent trends: the re-assessment of the visual arts as independent forms
of knowledge-generating research and the greater importance accorded to
visual representation in sociology and anthropology.

The conference has been jointly organised by the Munich Academy of Fine
Arts, the Cosmobilities Network and the mobil.TUM research and teaching
centre at the Institute for Transportation, TU Munich.
