Oh Canada, Why Canada?
The Art Dealers Association of Canada (ADAC) and Art Toronto are pleased to present Denise Markonish, Curator at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA) in conversation with independent curator Nancy Campbell about her upcoming exhibition Oh,Canada! Scheduled to open May 2012, it will be the largest survey of Canadian contemporary art to take place outside of Canada. Featuring more than 60 artists, the goal of the exhibition is to encourage dialogue about contemporary art made in Canada.

Canadian Art Now
Join Canadian Art Editor Richard Rhodes for a discussion of work by the Winnipeg-based artist Sarah Anne Johnson. The subject of a fall feature story in Canadian Art by critic Nancy Tousley, Johnson is currently a 2011 Sobey Prize nominee. The exhibition features works from her latest series Arctic Wonderland.

PUBLIC TOUR
Beyond our Borders: The International Scene
Join Deborah Harris, Managing Director of The Armory Show Modern, New York, for a tour highlighting US and European contemporary galleries. Discover new work by some of today’s rising young stars on the international art scene.
3pm – Art Toronto Stage
Buy Early, Buy Young
Join The Art Stylists, Manny Neubacher and Anya Shor, as they unveil their top picks from the vast crop of young contemporary artists at this year’s Art Toronto. They will discuss the reasons for their choices and encourage the audience to take chances on young talent and to fall in love with a variety of mediums and genres.
4pm – Art Toronto Stage
Kent Monkman in conversation with Steven Loft & Shirley Madill
Kent Monkman’s wry and engaging installation work continues to challenge and subvert institutional orthodoxy. Shirley Madill Director, Kitchener/Waterloo Art Gallery and Steven Loft Scholar in Residence, Ryerson Gallery and Research Centre will engage Monkman in a discussion of The Art Game, his latest work being exhibited at Art Toronto as well as recent exhibitions in Paris, Winnipeg and Montréal.

Power Talks
Presented by The Power Plant
Trevor Smith, The Museum in the Present Tense
Born in Regina, Trevor Smith is the inaugural Curator of Contemporary Art at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts – the oldest continuously operating museum in the U.S. Previously, Smith was Curator in Residence at the Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College, and Curator at the New Museum in New York. Most recently, he was a curator of the 2011 Singapore Biennale: Open House. Smith will discuss his recent work developing the contemporary program for the Peabody Essex.
