<nettime> Privatisation of Government Services |
From: Tom Gray@MITEL on 12/21/2000 08:54 AM For those concerned with the ongoing privatisation of government services and its effect on the democratic control of such services, the following link is to a story on the current controversy in Canada on the water supply of the village of Walkerton in the province of Ontario. The water supply was infected with E-Coli which resulted in the deaths of seven people and the hospitalisation of thousands of others for serious illnesses with no effective treatments. This story casts a new light on this controversy. It certainly reflects on the merits of localisation. http://www.nationalpost.com/commentary/columnists/story.html?f=/stories/20001221/413886.html # distributed via <nettime>: no commercial use without permission # <nettime> is a moderated mailing list for net criticism, # collaborative text filtering and cultural politics of the nets # more info: majordomo@bbs.thing.net and "info nettime-l" in the msg body # archive: http://www.nettime.org contact: nettime@bbs.thing.net
