Subject: online scholarship

Hello!

I am sending you this email to inform you of the scholarship for internet
art and communication, which we at boost GmbH are rewarding to promising
net artists for the duration of 6 months. Goal of the scholarship is to
establish a net art site, www.netzkunsthaus.org. Part of this site, and
the responsibility of the scholar, will be an up-to-date collection of net
art resources. The other part will be for free use to the artist. Here the
scholar should establish an internet art project, focusing on the
interaction between visitor and artist hence the interaction with the
visitors should be incorporated into the project. We at boost will not
only support the scholar with our hard- and software, but also our
knowledge in programming and other internet skills. In addition, the
scholar will receive DM 3000. Further information on the scholarship and
the application procedure can be found at www.netzkunsthaus.org

Could you please forward this email to other persons who may be
interessted in that subject.

With kind regards

A 'Present' Based on Disorder
about Real and Imaginary Flowers: A Tomato Project

recommended by Noda Tsutomu

If there were such a thing as a youth culture supermarket of the
1990s, which would have Clooney cut, club smile, figure, and turn-
table, the design group Tomato and the band Underworld would take
up most of the space on the shelves. Tomato's designs and Under-
world's music are symbols of the era. The influence continues....
This installation by Tomato is the largest ever shown in Japan....

text by Ozaki Tetsuya

On the day the US and British air forces bombed Iraq, I went to
Kamakura by train. The late winter sky above the old city was
clear and blue. The plum trees had started to bloom. It was hard
to believe that there was a war going on somewhere far away.
Because it was the weekend, Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine was packed
with tourists. But the Museum of Modern Art, Kamakura, which is on
the same property, was almost empty. The exhibition 'Israeli Art -
Modern: Messages to the New Millennium' was showing....

Subject: cast01: Symposium on Communication of Art, Science and Technology

call for participation / submission deadline 31.05.2001 / Schloss
Birlinghoven, Sankt Augustin (Bonn), 21-22.09.2001

cast01: Symposium on Communication of Art, Science and Technology

We invite you to participate in the cast01 symposium on intersections of
artistic, cultural, technological and scientific issues of:

Living in Mixed Realities

What does it mean to live, play and work in a world shaped and perceived
through digital media, networks and architectures of real-virtual space?

The development of complex communication spaces, life environments and
economic models is an interplay of technical, social, and artistic
forces - Mixed Realities of Art, Science and Technology.

The design of a Mixed Reality Architecture, which connects processes in
virtual space to the social environments and cultural practices of real
places, presents challenges to technologists, scientists and artists
alike. In such an architecture the basic design elements are networked
structures for new forms of collaborative work and knowledge discovery,
human-centred interaction and awareness, media spaces and advanced
interfaces.

At cast01 scientists will present technologies and infrastructures that
address these challenges. Artists will present aesthetic concepts of
digital culture and new interactive media formats. cast01 is an
invitation for a discussion between artistic practices and the forefront
of research and development of information technologies.

cast01 is organised by netzspannung.org and by the GMD - German National
Research Center for Information Technology. It is supported by the
German Federal Ministry for Education and Research (bmb+f) and by the
European Commission.

and work in a networked society. cast01 explores the ways in which Next
Generation Internet can be understood, explored and supported through
creative interdisciplinary practices.

cast01 invites submissions of inspiring research, technological
development and artistic production. Proposed contributions may be in
the form of research papers and artistic presentations as well as

Game and Scripting Classes Online

2 online classes, who live at opensorcery.net, are up and currently
in progress. you may peruse links, readings, and sample scripts,
take the quake quiz, or learn to write a behavior in lingo.

http://www.opensorcery.net/skool/process/processone.html

Creative_Processing_One

The course will introduce students to an understanding of multimedia
scripts and software as a time-based artistic medium. The course will
locate art software practice within a history of process-oriented art
forms and look at examples of software created by artists. In course
activities and art projects students will be encouraged to experiment
with a variety of scripting approaches. Section One of this course,
ten weeks, will teach scripting with Macromedia Director's Lingo.
Subsequent sections will teach other languages including JavaScript,
Perl, and more advanced Lingo, within net art and network gaming
contexts. Tutorials and scripting exercises will supplement the
programming skills employed in art projects.

Unit 1. Multimedia, Software, and Art Process
Unit 2. Interactivity
Unit 3. Scripting Fundamentals
Unit 4. Nanopet Pet Project
Unit 5. Drawing Tool Project

The_Art_of_the_Avid_Gamer

The course will investigate various ways that active cultural
production by gamers functions as art. The course will begin with
creative exercises in game character building and graphical avatar
design with attention to identity, gendering and violence. Students
will then be introduced to the digital folk art of game add-ons and
asked to make artistic interventions in gaming culture. Avid
participation in gamer fan culture often serves as a foundation for
later game design in the gaming industry.

Unit 1. Identity and Role Playing Games
Unit 2. Avatars and Gender Building: Monster Friendly
Unit 3. Pixelated Blood and Shooter Games
Unit 4. Artistic Interventions and the Digital Folk Art of Gamers
