<nettime> Fw: Ken Loach and the prize |
----- Forwarded message ------------------------------------ From: Viola <viola@esperantisto.org> Date: Fri, 03 Oct 2003 17:18:19 +0900 Subject: Ken Loach and the prize ------------------------------------------------------------ "We will watch what Loach will do for this " When awarded a prize, one must check who is giving it, what is giving it, what is their background, and whose money is behind it. On July 4 the mass media announced that five artists have been selected for the Praemium Imperiale global art prize, awarded by Japan Art Council, (it's official leader is one of the Impeiral family member, "Takamatsunomiya") - including film maker Ken Loach. This prize is awarded by the most right-wing people in Japan. It is supported by the Sankei daily paper, which is the most militaristic of the mass media in Japan. Yasuhiro Nakasone, ex-prime minister, who is one of the most militaristic figures in the Japanese right-wingers, very famous, is among the judges -the only Japanese- for this prize. The awarding ceremony will be the 23th of the this month, in Tokyo. Will Ken Loach receive this prize with his head bowed ? That would be indecent, we think, as supporters of Loach-films in Japan. We can not celebrate this tainted award and would like to watch carefully what action he will take there. If you know any Loach supporters in UK, please inform them about this and let's watch together how he act at real culture politics. what will we learn there ? A contradictions ? Naivety or disinterest about culture politics in other country ? Or ?
