Wonderful essay, Stevphen. Too much in it to discuss here. But Konrad's link
between critique, strategy and wisdom, as you arrticulate it, reminded me of
why Kant's *Critique of Judgment* was the most influential book for the 19th
century. Of course critique and judgment are in essence the same thing. To
be critical is to examine the foundations of contemporary civilization by
having recourse to judgement. Judgement in turn is the ability to form an
opinion on the basis of careful consideration -- beyond that to discern
relations linking particulars to more general principals )as in case law).
Wisdom is reason expressed as a lifetime of making judgments. Strategy adds
to all this the capacity to construct and choose between scenarios. But then
judgment always involves consdieration of future implications.

I prefer meat to veggies.
