Thanks Rachel, Ted and Iain, it's great to learn about all these connections. :) I didn't mean anything too fancy by low-latency, just trying to get the performance, and the performers hearing each other and communicating, as close to a real-time as if they were stood in the same room. I thought radio would be a natural medium for this: get everyone tuned in to the same frequency at the same time, use a shortwave band [1] or something with wide propagation. This would obviously lose a lot of clarity and detail but I don't know how well you could orchestrate a live performance over the Internet with e.g. Skype. Even latency of 20ms can make musical collaboration difficult, so maybe radio would be more effective for this.
