<nettime> THE INDEPENDENT NOVI SAD RADIO 021 NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT |
THE INDEPENDENT NOVI SAD RADIO 021 NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT The founders of the independent Novi Sad radio station Radio 021, the City Assembly, In-Press Publishing and Audio Constructor have been working on the establishment of Radio 021 for the last six months. The station has all the necessary conditions to start broadcasting - the team of journalists and the necessary broadcasting facilities. The problem is the working licence from the Yugoslav Ministry for Transport and Telecommunications. The legal procedure for obtaining the licence was started under the newly inaugurated regulations by the same Ministry. These regulations define the period in which the Ministry is to issue its response. The legal period for the response elapsed on the 22nd of June, 1997 with no reply from the Ministry. Radio 021 intends to broadcast unbiased information on daily events and shows covering the areas of culture, documentaries and sports as well as shows on the problems of refugees, ethnic minorities and marginalized groups - homosexuals, feminists and peace activists. The intention is to create an open medium - dynamic, argumentative and respectful. Faced with the current problem, Radio 021 is initiating several actions: the publication of a weekly newsletter as an alternative to broadcasting and a rock concert followed by a petition signing. The attempt will be made to exert pressure by sending the petition to the Ministry to issue the working licence. The concert will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 1997, at 18:00, in the city centre in front of the Town Hall. On that occasion all the expressions of support to Radio 021 will be related to the citizens of Novi Sad.
