[Nettime-nl] Exploding Cinema at the International Film Festival Rotterdam


   From the 24th of January till the 4th of februari the International Film
Festival Rotterdam presents Cinema Online.
As part of Exploding Cinema, the Cinema Online programme focuses on work
made especially for the internet and presents cinematographic pieces
-linear and interactive- that explore online filmmaking. The dedicated web
site ( <http://www.filmfestivalrotterdam.com/exploding>
http://www.filmfestivalrotterdam.com/exploding ) reveals the entire
programme and will be online from wednesday 24 january. In the festival
itself, the linear works will be screened in a film theatre and makers will
demonstrate their interactive works in presentations.
Theatre screenings:
Cinema Online 1 video, 70 min Compilation of work for the Internet on the
big screen. Largely short films and experimental work by independent
artists. A selection of the Cinema Online programme that is also on show on
the specially designed website (www.filmfestivalrotterdam.com/exploding).

The Future of the Small Screen wed. 31-1 A debate about convergence
programmes. After years of talking about convergence and crossovers between
television and Internet, recently there have been more and more crossover
programmes in which new concepts are developed. Experts in the field of
successful programmes that combine old and new media in challenging ways
will have their say. John Wyver, co-founder of Illuminations, is
television, film and multimedia producer and has produced countless
programmes about art and digital media. Sharleen Smith is deputy director
of Oxygen Media where she leads the 'Convergence Lab', a co-operative
venture with cable companies and others to reconnoitre the spectrum of
interactive television. Stuart Nolan is adviser to Oyster Partners and
founder of the 'Interactive TV Knowledge Sharing Initiative', for
cooperation between the interactive television&nbsp; industry and
academics.
