[Nettime-nl] Symposium "Television archives and the Semantic Web" vrijdag a.s. bij Beeld en Geluid

Goedemiddag,

Op 9 februari vindt in Hilversum het symposium "Television archives and the Semantic Web" plaats. Het symposium wordt georganiseerd vanuit het NWO programma CATCH, waarbinnen methoden en technieken worden ontwikkeld waarmee collectiebeheerders (musea, archieven, bibliotheken etc.) hun digitale collecties beter toegankelijk kunnen maken. Door deze tools kan de toegang worden verbeterd, en wordt het werk van erfgoedprofessionals vergemakkelijkt.

CATCH (www.nwo.nl/catch) is derhalve bedoeld voor beheerders van culturele collecties én voor eindgebruikers van deze collecties, zoals researchers, journalisten, gebruikers uit het educatieve domein en het algemeen publiek. Het CATCH programma is opgebouwd rond drie thema´s: ´Semantische interoperabiliteit door metadata´, ´Kennisverrijking door automatische analyse´ en ´Personalisatie door presentatie´. Onder elk van deze thema´s is een aantal projecten gegroepeerd, waarin door vertegenwoordigers van een erfgoedinstelling en een kennisinstelling wordt samengewerkt aan een specifiek probleem. Het symposium bij Beeld en Geluid is een initiatief van het project CHOICE, een samenwerkingsverband tussen de Vrije Universiteit, het Telematica Instituut, het  Max Planck Instituut én het Instituut voor Beeld en Geluid, de erfgoedinstelling waar de projectleden inmiddels al bijna twee jaar vertoeven.

The NWO-funded CATCH programme aims at giving the general public new ways to access to the Dutch Cultural Heritage, and at providing collection managers with new tools and methods to enrich, access and show their collections. CATCH is divided in several sub-projects, each of them collaborating with a Cultural Heritage institution and focusing on a specific aspect of the general goal, for example: cross-collection and cross-vocabulary access to the content personalized services on museum web sites faster and more complete access to pictures in cultural archives through digital analysis

Our project, named CHOICE, collaborates with the Dutch national audiovisual archives, the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision, and focuses on semantic annotation of documents (television broadcasts), by means of NLP and Semantic Web techniques applied to sets of texts related to the broadcasts (TV-guides, websites, etc.).
