PIET ZWART INSTITUTE Master Media Design & Communication: Networked & Lens-Based Research programme Communication in a Digital Age Public programme February 2011 [1] Public events in collaboration with the Rotterdam Film Festival This month, several Master and research programmes of the Piet Zwart Institute organize a conference, lectures and an exhibition on artists' filmmaking post-cinema and -tv, as part of the XL programme of the International Film Festival Rotterdam. [2] Sniff, Scrape, Crawl: Public Lecture series initiated by Master Media Design & Communication: Networked - Feb. 8: Seda Guerses & Michelle Teran - Feb. 16: Dmytri Kleiner & Mirko Tobias Schaefer In the past surveillance technologies belonged to governmental agencies and the military domain, but today the web has fostered a less optically driven and participatory means of both monitoring and monetizing our intimately lived experiences. Bringing together artists, programmers and theorists, *Sniff, Scrape, Crawl...* is a series of lectures and presentations reflecting on the porous borders of privacy in the digital age. Public Lecture/Presentation: Seda Guerses & Michelle Teran Date: Tuesday, 08/02/2011 Time: 19:30 Location: Mauritsstraat 36, Rotterdam Seda Guerses is a researcher working in the group COSIC/ESAT at the Department of Electrical Engineering in K.U. Leuven, Belgium. She has a keen interest in the topic of anonymity in technical as well as cultural contexts. Michelle Teran is an artist interested in the interaction between media and social networks in urban environments. She is also a current research fellow at the National Academy of Art in Bergen. ------------------------------------------- Public Lecture/Presentation: Dmytri Kleiner & Mirko Tobias Schaefer Date: Wednesday, 16/02/2011 Time: 19:30 Location: Mauritsstraat 36, Rotterdam Mirko Tobias Schaefer is Assistant Professor for New Media & Digital Culture at the University of Utrecht. He publishes on software development and the socio-political debates on information and communication technology.
