La iniÈiativa FundaÈiei Culturale Intact, curatorii Maria Rus Bojan Åi
Horea Avram vor purta o dezbatere cu artistul belgian MichaÃl Borremans Åi
cu galeristul Frank Demaegd pe tema relevanÈei picturii figurative Ãn arta
contemporanÄ Åi a rolului pe care aceasta o joacÄ Ãn piaÈa de artÄ Åi Ãn
instituÈiile de profil.

Apreciat pentru viziunea Åi ÃndemÃnarea sa artisticÄ,  MichaÃl Borremans a
devenit celebru cu pictura sa figurativÄ care evocÄ artiÅti importanÈi
precum Velasquez, Goya, sau Manet. MaturizÃndu-se Ãn plinÄ epocÄ a
apropriaÈionismului postmodern, Borremans a pÄstrat ceva din aceastÄ
tacticÄ, vizibilÄ Ãn modul Ãn care artistul ÃnglobeazÄ tradiÈia picturalÄ
Ãntr-un mod subversiv.

Dezbaterea va viza aspecte legate de strategiile creative din spatele
reprezentÄrii figurative, de rolul jucat de corpul uman Ãn definirea
imaginii Åi de relevanÈa actualÄ a âmaeÅtrilorâ ca modele pentru artiÅtii
contemporani. Ãn acelaÅi timp, se va discuta despre evoluÈia Åi orientarea
pieÈei de artÄ Åi rolul pe care pictura figurativÄ Ãl joacÄ Ãn instituÈiile
de artÄ.

*MichaÃl* *Borremans* este un pictor Åi artist video, care traieste Åi
lucreazÄ Ãn Ghent, Belgia. S-a nÄscut Ãn 1963 Ãn Geraardsbergen, Belgium.
Ãn 1996 a absolvit Hogeschool voor Wetenschap en Kunst, Campus St. Lucas,
Ãn Ghent. ÃncepÃnd cu anul 2000, artistul este reprezentat de Zeno X
Gallery, din Anvers Åi din 2001 de galeria David Zwirner din New York.

*Frank Demaegd* este proprietarul Galeriei *Zeno X* din Anvers, Belgia.
Printre artiÅtii care sunt reprezentaÈi de aceastÄ galerie se numÄrÄ: Luc
Tuymans, Marlene Dumas, Raoul De Keyser, Dirk Braeckman, MichaÃl Borremans,
Stan Douglas, Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven, Mark Manders.

*Maria Rus Bojan* este curator independent Åi expert Ãn artÄ contemporanÄ
care trÄieÅte Åi lucreazÄ la Amsterdam. Conduce MB Art Agency, o platforma
flexibilÄ specializatÄ Ãn consiliere Åi cercetare Ãn domeniul artei
contemporane.

*Horea Avram* este istoric de artÄ, teoretician media, curator Åi director
artistic al FundaÈiei Culturale IntAct. Este lector invitat al
Departamentului de Cinematografie Åi Media al FacultÄÈii de Teatru Åi
Televiziune, Universitatea BabeÅ-Bolyai, Cluj-Napoca.

*Florin Åtefan* este artist, curator Èi art promoter. Este preÈedintele
FundaÈiei Culturale
Intact. Ãn prezent este lector la Departamentul de PicturÄ al UniversitÄÈii
de ArtÄ Èi
Design, Cluj-Napoca.

Evenimentul este organizat de FundaÈia CulturalÄ Intact Cluj Åi MB Art
Agency Amsterdam.

At the initiative of Intact Cultural Foundation Cluj, curators Maria Rus
Bojan and Horea Avram will engage in a dialogue with the Belgian artist
MichaÃl Borremans and gallery owner Frank Demaegd on the role played by
figurative painting in shaping the contemporary art discourse, and on the
role of the art market and its institutions

Praised for his skills in painting, drawing and film-making, MichaÃl
Borremans is best known for his figurative works that refer to past masters
such as Velasquez, Goya, or Manet. Having come to artistic maturity during
a time when painting was overwhelmed by post-modern strategies of
appropriation, Borremans remained somehow loyal to this artistic strategy,
in the way in which he uses the rich historical heritage of realist
artistic representation as a subversive tool.

The discussion aims to explore the creative strategies behind the
figurative representation, the role played by the human body in defining
the image, and the relevance of the âgreat mastersâ as models in
contemporary art. At the same time, we will evaluate the prospects of
figurative painting in todayâs art market and institutions.

*MichaÃl Borremans* (born 1963) is a painter and filmmaker who lives and
works in Ghent, Belgium. In 1996 he received his M.F.A. from Hogeschool
voor Wetenschap en Kunst, Campus St. Lucas, in Ghent. Since 2000 the
artistâs work has been represented by Zeno X Gallery, Antwerp and since
2001 by David Zwirner, New York.

*Frank Demaegd* is the owner of *Zeno X Gallery* in Antwerp, Belgium. Among
the artists represented by the gallery are: Luc Tuymans, Marlene
Dumas, Raoul De Keyser, Dirk Braeckman, MichaÃl Borremans, Stan Douglas,
Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven, Mark Manders.

*Maria Rus Bojan* is an independent curator and art adviser who lives and
works in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. She is the owner of MB Art Agency, a
flexible platform focused on research and consultancy for contemporary art.

*Horea Avram* is an art historian, media theorist, curator and artistic
director of the IntAct Cultural Foundation. He is visiting lecturer at the
Department of Cinema and Media, Faculty of Theatre and Television,
BabeÅ-Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca.

*Florin Åtefan* is an artist, curator and art promoter. He is president of
the Intact Cultural
Foundation. He is currently lecturer at the Painting Department, University
of Art and
Design, Cluj-Napoca.

The event is organized by the Intact Cultural Foundation Cluj with the
support of MB Art Agency Amsterdam.
