Press Release edited by JavaMuseum - Forum for Internet Technologies in Contemporary Art www.javamuseum.org (Java=Joint Advanced Virtual Affairs) pr@javamuseum.org JavaMuseum is happy to open its first online show on Monday, 3 September 2001, entitled: **1st of Java - Perspectives on New Media** the Show and to publish the winners of the first ***JavaArtist of the Year Award***for 2001 **1st of Java - Perspectives on New Media ** the Show is based on an online competition and a series of selections earlier this year. 184 net artists submitted more than 250 works. 37 finalists and one work of each artist extracted form the essence of the show. The show has no actual subject, but is intending to spotlight the actual working of artists using Internet related technologies, and in this way creating in the eye of the viewer the unity of an image consisting on a variety of different aspects, a.o. technology, work out and artistic approach. Five (5) virtual spaces, i.e. "Living Room, Communication, Garden, Studio and Poetesses' Lounge", form the exhibition environment where the art works are embedded in. The competition represented also the basis for nominating the artists for ***JavaArtist of the Year 2001***, to be awarded for the first time in 2001 and in sequence annually. The Award is an award of honour and is not connected with a material prize.
