-------- Original Message -------- Return-Path: <baracz@earthlink.net> Delivered-To: wolfgangsta@thing.net Subject: FEBRUARY 15!!!!!!! NY Friends, An unbelievable and unexpected challenge: The city of NYC is refusing to issue a permit allowing the anti-war march on Feb 15, despite the following: 1) We have a constitutional right to peaceably assemble under the first amendment! 2) Tens of thousands of people in the NY area are planning to converge on this day of solidarity. 3) Buses from all over the country are coming to the city no matter what happens with this permit. This is a very serious infraction against our rights as NYC residents and US citizens. We should all be very concerned that the mayor and NYPD are refusing us this basic right. Riots are not planned, only a standard issue march, the likes of which they have seen a zillion times. The difference? It's anti-establishment; they're scared to get out of bed with the Bush administration. I URGE you to take 4 minutes (that is exactly how long it took me, i got no busy signals), pick up the phone right now and make 3 phone calls. Tell them this: "I am a NY citizen. We have a First Amendment right to peacefully assemble on Feb 15. Issue the permit now." (They may ask for an address to prove you are a NY resident.) **NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg: 212-788-9600, 212-788-3010, 212-788-3040 **NYC Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly: 646-610-8526 **NYPD Chief of Department Joseph Esposito: 646-610-6710 Thank you for trying to make this country live up to what its values supposedly are.
