präsentiert in Kooperation mit transmediale und Podewil

Lange bevor E-Mail und das Internet bekannt wurden, prägte der
britische Künstler und Theoretiker Roy Ascott den Begriff der
'Telematischen Kunst' und beschrieb damit die Verwendung von
Computernetzwerken als künstlerisches Medium. Telematic Embrace ist
eine eindrucksvolle Sammlung von Ascotts Texten aus über drei
Jahrzehnten zur Ästhetik, Interaktivität und zum Verständnis von
Selbst und Gemeinschaft in der telematischen Welt des Cyberspace. Das
Buch erkundet, wie netzwerkbasierte Kommunikation das Verhalten und
das Bewusstsein diesseits und jenseits der Kunst veränderte.

Roy Ascott, Direktor des Planetary Collegium und Professor für
Technoetik an der University of Plymouth, wird anwesend sein um eine
Einführung in seine Arbeit zu geben und um über das utopische Moment
in Kunst und Technologie zu reflektieren.

Long before E-mail and the Internet permeated society, Roy Ascott, a
pioneering British artist and theorist, coined the term "telematic
art" to describe the use of online computer networks as an artistic
medium. Telematic Embrace gathers an impressive compilation of more
than three decades of Ascott's philosophies on aesthetics,
interactivity, and the sense of self and community in the telematic
world of cyberspace. The book explores how networked communication
has shaped behaviour and consciousness within and beyond the realm of
what is conventionally defined as art.

Roy Ascott, Director of the Planetary Collegium and Professor of
Technoetics at the University of Plymouth, is present to introduce
the scope of his work and to reflect on the utopian practice of art
and technology.
