Lili Sturm Manifesta Press Office ___________M A N I F E S T A 3______________ ____EUROPEAN BIENNIAL OF CONTEMPORARY ART_____ ___________Ljubljana, Slovenia_______________ ________June 23rd - Sept 24th 2000____________ PRESS RELEASE # 8 This summer, the third edition of MANIFESTA, European Biennial of Contemporary Art, is taking place in Ljubljana. Manifesta 3 opened on June 23 and will be hosted by the Slovene capital until September 24 2000. Manifesta 3 presents the works of 59 European artists and groups. The artistic concept has been set by international curators Francesco Bonami, Ole Bouman, Mária Hlavajová and Kathrin Rhomberg, who have decided to view contemporary European and artistic currents through the prism of the BORDERLINE SYNDROME - ENERGIES OF DEFENCE. Over 1000 artists, journalists, editors, critics, curators, gallery owners and other guests attended the preview days running from June 21 to 23/25, intended for the professional public and the press. The show captured great attention of the Slovene public and the public from the neighbouring countries - Italy, Austria and Croatia. Many visitors arrived also from several other countries, specially from Estonia, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Japan, Lithuania, Luxembourg Netherlands, Rumania, Russia, Switzerland, Slovakia and the USA. The show was visited by the curators of major international artistic events, such as Kassel Documenta, Istanbul Biennial, Venice Biennial. All the leading TV, radio and publishing houses of Slovenia covered the event (particularly RTV Slovenia - the fifth venue of Manifesta 3 - broadcasting 3 shows). The preview days were also covered by Art Forum Int., Flash Art Int., Springerin, Art Monthly, Contemporary Visual Arts, Frieze, ORF, Stern, Frankfurter Allgemaine Zeitung, New York Times, etc. Over a hundred (106) Slovene and over 260 foreign journalists have been accredited.
