Part of this years 'Rundgang' ( 'open doors') from 12th to 16th of july in
the academy of fine arts in Kassel / Germany (www.khs.uni-kassel.de) is the
'digital arena'. Within this newMedia project parts of the art program like
live performances, movie-premieres of the acadamies' film- and
trickfilm-classes, the opening ceremonie etc. will be broadcasted worldide
live in the internet.

|||||||||||||||||||||||| On saturday, the 15. of july, digital arena finds
its' climax in a massive new-media-event (envisioned and produced by
fLeITer and candela2 of KHK), to which sound, video and light artists from
several countries were invited, to work one night together mixer-in-mixer
on a multi-media dancefloor and a chill-out-zone to put the expected 2000
visitors right in the center of a digital 'Gesamtkunstwerk'.

Carsten Nicolai (documenta X, mille plateaux)

|||||||||||||||||||||||| The artists  (every set is performed by one DJ,
one LJ and two VJ's) in the frag zone, the main arena, work around themes
like 'media reflection between Make-Up and Pret-a-Porter', 'martial
interpretaions of everyday phenomena', video-alchemy, multi-format-mixtures
and media overload. The music style being played by the DJ's settles
somewhere in techno-electronic sounds, to which the VJ's transform the
light- and sound-flooded architecture with video- and computer-animations
into what somebody once described as 'expanded cinema'(a cinema that
appeals to all senses; with cigarrette-fumes, smoke-machines and sweating
bodies in this case adding the last sensation). Part of the VJ-show in the
main arena will be the projection of a modified quake3 arena match which
takes place in the virtually reconstructed academy of fine arts, to which
users worldwide can log in (Server IP address is 141.51.228.55 and is ready
now for beta-testing; texture and map downloads are available at
www.digital-arena.org).

In the chill-out-zone 'blue electro' the audience has the possibilty to
escape the media overload of the main arena and to relax with live on
computers and diverse other electronic sound devices created
minimal-electro-avantgarde-sound, atmospheric lighting, water projections
and dry-ice-fountains.

|||||||||||||||||||||||| Teil des diesjaehrigen Rundgangs (12.-16. 07.) der
Kunsthochschule Kassel (www.khs.uni-kassel.de) ist die digital arena. Im
Rahmen dieses Medien-Projektes werden einzelne Programmpunkte wie
kuenstlerische Performances, Premieren der Film- und Trickfilmklassen der
KHK, Eroeffnungs- und Abschlusszeremonie etc. ab dem 12. Juli live im
Internet uebertragen.

|||||||||||||||||||||||| Am 15. Juli, 22.00 bis 06.00 Uhr, veranstaltet
digital arena ein massives new-media / Art-Dancefloor-cross-over-Event
(visioniert und produziert von fLeITer und candela2 / KHS Kassel), zu
welchem international Sound-, Video- und Lichtkuenstler eingeladen wurden,
um eine Nacht lang in zwei Arenen (ein grosser Multimedia-Dancefloor und
ein Chillout) Mischer in Mischer zu arbeiten und die erwarteten 2000
Besucher in das oszillierende Zentrum eines digitalen Gesamtkunstwerkes zu
ruecken.

Die Tueren oeffnen um 20.00 Uhr in der Kunsthochschule Kassel Menzelstrasse
13   34121 Kassel

Beginn ist um 21.00 Uhr mit 'prototyp1', einer multi-media-Performance von
Carsten Nicolai (documenta X, mille plateaux)

|||||||||||||||||||||||| Die Auseinandersetzungen der Kuenstler in der main
arena - jeweils ein DJ, ein LJ und zwei VJ's arbeiten gemeinsam - bewegen
sich in der Spannweite von Themen wie 'Medienreflektion zwischen
Pret-a-Porter und Make-Up', 'martialische Interpretationen alltaeglicher
Phaenomene', Video- & Sound-Alchemie, multi-format-mixturen und
media-overload. Die Stilrichtung der DJ's findet sich irgendwo in
techno-elektro-Sounds, zu denen die VJ's die sound- und lichtdurchfluteten
Architektur mit Video- und Computer-Animationen in ein alle Sinne
ansprechendes "expanded cinema" verwandeln. Teil der VJ-Show wird die
Projektion des Geschehens in einer eigens fuer digital Arena konzipierten
und bearbeiteten Quake3-Arena sein, in die sich User welteit einloggen
koennen. Informationen und Map/Texture-Downloads stehen unter
www.digital-arena.org zur Verfuegung. Der Server hat die IP-Adresse
141.51.228.55 und steht ab sofort zum beta-testing zur Verfuegung.

Im 'blue elektro', der chill-out-zone, hat das Publikum die Moeglichkeit,
sich der Reizueberflutung der main arena zu entziehen und bei
minimalistischen elektro-avantgarde-Sounds, Lichtatmosphaeren,
Wasserprojektionen und Trockeneis-Nebelwaenden zu relaxen.
