NEW EVENTS!!! in London. Le Jardin: an event- I.C.A, Tuesday June 30th, 20.00h. Le Jardin:an exhibition and SAPROPHILES â?? parasite actionâ?? - Stockwell Studios, Annie McCall Hospital. 39 Jeffreys Road ( London SW4). Private view, July 2nd, 6-8pm. Open July 3rd-July 5th, 6-10pm. Le Jardin is a new event exploring several levels of creative interaction between Technology, Culture and Nature, devised and curated by Joanna Krysa and Adrian Palka. At the I.C.A, diverse works involving such diverse elements as British soil samples, technologically influenced music and images, sound collages and Super 8 projections are a showcase of the work of the following artists : Fabienne Audeoud, Janek Koza, Harry Palmer, Wofram der Spyra, Tod and Lucy Casson, Hallam Lewis, Greg Miller, Adrian Palka, Tony Bassett, Alistair Hadley and Simon Miles. Inspired by the secluded beauty of the garden at the former Annie McCall Maternity Hospital, Stockwell, South London, the show sets out to span the current tensions between the global and the local, the urban and the green, high and low technologies. Challenging young artists from Germany, Poland, Singapore and London, apply their unique perspectives to the specific, local nuances of the site. The participating artists include Matthias Rexford and Wolfram der Spyra ( with a musical greenhouse that could be seen in Documenta X) ; Alistair Hadley (with â??HY DRAW LIC Hotelâ?? ) ;Woon Tien Wei ( sound installation ) ; Monika Duda ( space-transforming installation) and Janek Koza ( whose paintings explore the contentious relations between the natural and the artificial). The show, which aims to attract a wide audience, will trace the curiously public, yet personal atmosphere of the site, which still lingers from the era in which the garden was used for immediate post natal recuperation by new mothers and their babies. A mood now under threat from encroaching urban blight. This show will be the site of the first intervention in the â?? SAPROPHILESâ?? series of â?? parasite actions â?? , showing Ibon Cormenzanaâ??s two-minute film â?? Half Moon â??. Saprophiles are those parasites that live only where there is death. Therefore, all of the interventions in this series have been selected on the grounds of their very particular approach to the subject of mortality, and fit in a wider project, entitled â??Vanitasâ??, that is being developed throughout 1998 and 1999. This project is curated by Elena Vallet. For further information on â?? Le Jardinâ?? email joasia_m_k@hotmail.com.
