<nettime> Investigating the Kill Cloud - 10 Year Disruption Network Lab - Nov 29-30 / Dec 1 |
Dear Nettimers,I would like to invite you to our 34th conference at Kunstquartier Bethanien in Berlin: INVESTIGATING THE KILL CLOUD: Information Warfare, Autonomous Weapons & AI.
https://www.disruptionlab.org/investigating-the-kill-cloudI curated this conference in collaboration with Jutta Weber (Professor for Media, Culture & Society at Paderborn University). It is also a very important event for us as it marks the 10 year anniversary of the Disruption Network Lab.
The concept of the 'Kill Cloud' describes a new paradigm of networked warfare that is not limited to the analysis of direct military actions. The conference INVESTIGATING THE KILL CLOUD deals with the full scope of this type of warfare - from AI-based facial recognition and targeted-killing, to the entanglement of private advertising industries and social media with the war machinery, to automated unmanned aerial vehicle attacks.
The four fellows of the new Disruption Network Institute - Lisa Ling, Naomi Colvin, Joana Moll and Jack Poulson - are bringing transparency to the complexity and opacity of networked warfare with their 15-month research projects. Their research will be published on 28 November here: https://disruption.institute/ - and presented at the conference.
Their presentations and lecture performance will be complemented by talks from experts such as Thomas Drake (NSA whistleblower), Jesselyn Radack (Whistleblower and Source Protection Program WHISPeR), Sophia Goodfriend (+972 Magazine), Matt Mahmoudi (Amnesty Tech) and many more.
If you are interested in taking part, you can join us this weekend (tickets are available online) or watch us live and ask questions to our speakers via an online chat.
