Objectives


The Media Dimensions Project intends to identify solutions and
opportunities for creative artists using the New Media of the 21. Century.
The topic multi media gains in the 21. Century new dimensions based on the
rapid development of technologies and styles in the following areas

-       Digital Music and Sound Generation,
-       Digital Image and Video Generation,
-       Studio Work and Live Performance and
-       Publicity of the New Media in the Era of the Broadband Internet.

Style and content of avant-garde and underground artists, which so far had
only marginal relevance in the public, can reach target groups all over the
world with the support of the New Media.

New tools for the work of artists will increase their creativity. Their
style, their works and their performances will change dramatically.

This workshop offers artists from all over the world and from different
areas of art the opportunity to cooperate with representatives of the media
and technology sector to explore the potential of creativity offered by the
New Media of the 21. Century.

The participants of the workshop develop and discuss their works in
progress. They will present their works and performances in public.
Workshop and performances will be presented in the internet. A broadband
internet transmission is intended. The final versions of the works will be
performed in December 2000 in the Akademie der Künste and the Podewil.

Workshop coaches will organize the cooperation before, during and after the
workshop. State of the art equipment is available for the participants of
the workshop like e. g. a variety of sound design tools and different types
of video workstations.

An extensive documentation of the Media Dimensions Project will be
produced. Selected contributions of the participants of the workshop and
the performances will be published in a book, on Audio-CD, CD-ROM and
VHS-Cassettes.

An Electronic Lounge with cool drinks and a large variety of audio and
video tapes and discs offers the possibility to relax.

Equipment

The participants of the workshop may use several audio and video
workstations like e. g. Apple Power Macs equipped with Media 100 or
Protools hardware and software as well as different types of audio and
video recorders.

High-quality 8-channel sound systems, 6 video beamers and a special
designed concert hall for 8-channel surround sound are available for the
workshops and the performances.

Themen und Ziele

Das Media Dimensions Project versucht Lösungen für Möglichkeiten der
künstlerischen Verwendung der Neuen Medien im 21. Jahrhundert zu finden. Das
Thema Multimedia gewinnt im 21. Jahrhundert durch die rapide Entfaltung von
Technologien und ästhetischen Formen neue Dimensionen in den Bereichen

- Digitale Musik- und Klanggestaltung,
- Digitale Bild- und Videogestaltung,
- Studioarbeit und Live-Performance und
- Öffentlichkeit der Neuen Medien im Zeitalter des Breitband-Internets.

Kunstformen und Stile, die bisher lange durch ihre Randgruppenwxistenz nur
eine eingeschränkte Öffentlichkeit hatten, können durch die Neuen Medien
weltweit verbreitet werden und ihre Zielgruppen erreichen.

Das Innovationspotential der Künstler aus den Bereichen Avantgarde sowie
Underground-Szene erhält neue Arbeitsmittel, die ihren Arbeitsstil, ihre
Werke und ihre Perfomances grundlegend verändern.

Der Workshop bietet interessierten Künstlern aus aller Welt, die akustisch
oder visuell arbeiten, die Möglichkeit, in Zusammenarbeit mit Vertretern der
Medienbranche, Technologieanbietern und international renomiertesten
Künstlern zusammenzutreffen, zu diskutieren und grundlegende Entwicklungen
kennenzulernen.

Die Teilnehmer entwickeln und   diskutieren > Works in Progress < und
führen Werke und Performances öffentlich auf. Die endgültigen Fassungen der
Werke werden im Dezember  2000 in einer eigener Veranstaltungsreihe in der
Akademie der Künste und im Podewil aufgeführt.

Die Workshopcoaches betreuen in der Vorbereitung, während des dreitägigen
Workshops und in der Weiterbearbeitung die einzelnen Themen.
State-of-the-Art Equipment steht für die Teilnehmer zur Verwirklichung ihrer
Ideen zur Verfügung wie z. B. diverse Sound Design Tools und voll
ausgerüstete Videoarbeitsplätze.

Es wird eine umfangreiche Dokumentation über das Media Dimensions Project
erstellt. Ausgewählte Beiträge der Teilnehmer des Workshops und der
Aufführungen werden auf Audio CD, CD-ROM, VHS-Kassetten und in einer
Buchpublikation veröffentlicht.

Eine Electronic Lounge bietet die Möglichkeit zum Relaxen bei kühlen Drinks
und einem breiten Angebot von Audio- und Videowerken.

Die Teilnehmer am Workshop können mehrere Audio- und Videoarbeitsplätze
nutzen, z. B. Apple Power Macs mit Media 100 oder mit Protools Ausrüstung
inkl. diverser Audio- und Videosoftware sowie verschiedene Typen von Audio-
und Videorecordern.

Für die Workshops und Aufführungen stehen hochwertige 8-Kanal
Beschallungsanlagen und Video-Beamer zur Verfügung sowie ein speziell
eingerichteter Konzertraum für 8-Kanal Surround.
